Is Your Phone Compromising Your Alarm System?

Are you using the new phone services, commonly called “VoIP” (Voice over Internet Protocol) and “digital telephone service”? Unfortunately, these new services can adversely affect your electronic Security/Life Safety system. For instance, your alarm system may lose its connection to the telephone service, rendering the system unable to send alarm signals to our Central Station. The technology may also cause your alarm signals to get scrambled. Plus, VoIP and digital phone services may need additional battery back-up equipment to maintain communications in the event of a power failure.

The solution is  adding a cellular communicator. More and more people are switching to cellular. It not only makes your communication more reliable, the system will support interaction via your smart phone to remotely arm/disarm the alarm. You’ll even save money!

Either way, we encourage you to check with us before making any changes to your existing telephone service. If you have already switched to VoIP or digital phone service, it is extremely important that you contact us now. We will arrange a service call to properly test your system and check the wiring and provide you with all the options.

Regular inspections can be the difference between having your security or fire system when you need it, and finding out too late that the system has a problem. Testing your business fire alarm system on a regular basis ensures that it’s in compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72 standards, as well as the local fire safety requirements and your insurance company’s fire alarm requirements. We test the control panel, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide sensors, pull stations, sprinkler & waterflow tampers, batteries and elevator recall. In addition, we verify that all signals are received at the panel and the central station.
